About the Authors

Hi everyone! Welcome to the very first blog post on Living Our Calling. Joey and I are so excited to share with you our stories of life, love, and ministry as we navigate our life of raising 3 adopted boys, working together in ministry, following dreams, being eternal souls in temporary vessels, and answering the question, are we Living Our Calling?

First, we know that most of you reading this post already know us, but just in case you don’t, let’s get some introductions out of the way.

I don’t know how I ever snagged a guy so cool!

Joey was born in Amarillo, Texas, and was adopted at 10 months old by his parents who lived in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Joey lived in Carlsbad until after high school when he moved to Hennessey, Oklahoma, to be a youth minister.

I, Regina, was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas and lived in Summerfield, Oklahoma, until I attended college first in Wilburton, Oklahoma, and then in Edmond, Oklahoma. It was while living in Oklahoma City and attending college at UCO that Joey saw me at a Bible study I regularly attended. Joey was interested in me but he suffered a broken ankle and had to return to Carlsbad for a while. Unfortunately, I had no idea who he was until 2006 when he returned to the Bible study and still wanted to ask me out. We officially met in September 2006 and 3 months later we were married in December 2006.

Just two crazy kids getting married after only 3 months of knowing each other.

I continued attending college and working, and Joey worked and was a leader for our college group at church and we both helped with youth group activities. In 2008, Joey accepted a position as Youth Minister at Cactus Drive church of Christ in Levelland, Texas, so off we went! We lived and worked in Levelland for 3 years until Joey was offered a pulpit/youth minister position at Hillside church of Christ in Plains, Texas. We have been blessed to be here in Plains for over 6 years now and just love being here.

In 2010 we became licensed foster parents and welcomed our first 2 kiddos into our home. Little Boy and Little Girl stayed with us for 9 months before they were placed with family. After a short hiatus, we welcomed Julius into our home in October 2011. He was just the perfect little butterball of a baby and we knew in our hearts that he would be ours one day. In 2012 we welcomed another foster placement McCrae and in 2013 we welcomed McCrae’s half-brother Luke. Julius’s adoption was finalized in 2013 and Luke and McCrae’s adoption was finalized in 2014. Our family of 3 boys is NEVER dull and full of more love, frustrations, headaches, belly laughs, dirt, burps, tickle fights, legos, super heroes, and joy than we ever imagined.

Adoption Day for Luke and McCrae – 2014! We officially became a family of FIVE!

I have been a blogger in the past and it’s something that I dearly love, but for the past several months Joey and I have been brainstorming and working on a new joint adventure of blogging together. Through our blog we hope to share our stories and our lives with our readers and in doing so, share the burdens as well as the joys of a life of ministry, marriage, parenthood, and more. We hope you will join our group on Facebook: LIVING OUR CALLING and keep up with us through our blog and across social media. We hope you feel encouraged by our posts, whether they are light-hearted and uplifting, or serious and written from a place of painful growing experiences. Let’s grow together!

Most importantly, Joey and I are Christ-followers. In Ephesians 4:1 Paul tells the people of Ephesus, “I urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called.” Whether it’s in ministry, marriage, raising our boys, being with friends and family, or anywhere in our day-to-day life, that’s the question we are always asking ourselves… Are we living our calling?

We will see you again soon and please don’t forget to join us on Facebook and Instagram!!

Love & Blessings,
